Members of City of York Council's Executive will receive an update on progress with finding a developer to reopen the Barbican when they meet later this month.
An update report on the process for finding the developer will be presented to the Executive meeting on 20th July, ahead of a full report detailing the solutions proposed by the developers and asking the Executive to select a preferred bidder in September.
The report sets out the process so far and explains the detailed steps that have been taken to ensure any new bidder will be able to provide a top quality solution for the Barbican.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion Councillor Nigel Ayre said the process was continuing to run to the timetable set out by the Executive.
He said, "The process for finding a developer to reopen the Barbican continues to run on schedule. Constructive discussions have taken place with both short listed developers and I am pleased that we have received two strong business cases. It shows that there is real interest in running the Barbican."
"The business cases from both short listed developers will be examined and discussed before formal tenders are submitted at the beginning of August."
"The tenders will then be evaluated and a recommendation for the preferred bidder is due to come to the Executive in September when we should be in a position to make a decision and move forward with reopening the Barbican."
"I am confident that the hard work carried out by officers in ensuring this process is as comprehensive as possible will result in us being able to select a top quality developer to reopen the Barbican."
