This year's Big City Read was officially launched last week marking the beginning of a summer full of events where residents will be able to get a taste of the city's heritage.
The Big City Read allows people to join together to enjoy reading the same book and gives them the opportunity to take part in special events based on the theme of the chosen book.
This year the chosen book is Chocolat by Joanne Harris which has inspired a wide range of chocolate based events that will take place throughout the summer.
Events planned for the summer include chocolate making workshops, a guided walk of Rowntree York, a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed day to celebrate Roald Dahl Day and another visit by Chocolat author Joanne Harris.

Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said the events for this year's Big City Read would once again give residents the chance to explore the city's heritage.
He said, "Last year's Big City Read was focused on York's Tudor past, this year the events look at a more recent aspect of the city's heritage and it's reputation as a 'chocolate city'.
"The events are taking place in libraries across the city so everyone will be able to take part in the celebrations."
"I am sure this year's events will be even more successful than last year."
