Councillor Nigel Ayre
Aspiring local travel writers will have the chance to pick up some hints and tips from one of the authors of the popular Lonely Planet travel guide series next week at a special event at York Explore.
Steve Fallon will be visiting the newly refurbished library on Thursday 12th August as part of celebrations for this year's Big City Read.
He will be talking about experiences of travelling to destinations such as Paris, South East Asia and Europe during his presentation.
People attending the event can bring along their own work to discuss with Steve or simply go along to get some inspiration as to where to start.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said he hoped the event would encourage people to give writing a try.
He said, "The Big City Read isn't only about encouraging people to enjoy reading more, it is also about inspiring people to have a go a writing themselves."
"The event next week will give people the chance to learn from someone who has been very successful in travel writing. I am sure Steve's tales of his travels will inspire many people to write about their experiences."
Councillor Ayre said he hoped the events for the Big City Read would bring even more visitors to the newly refurbished York Explore.
He said, "We have already seen record numbers of people visiting York Explore in recent weeks and I am sure that the wide range of events being held as part of the Big City Read will increase visitor numbers even more."
The event will run from 2pm to 4pm and tickets for cost £5 and are available fro York Explore or by calling 01904 552828.
