Councillor Carol Runciman
The arrival of Key Stage 4 GCSE results brings celebrations to students across York today, as they enjoy record grades.
Students in York have exceeded the national average, as eight out of ten students achieved at least five A* to C grades, compared to the national average of 7 out of ten students.
The percentage of students achieving at least five A* to C grades has risen to more than 80 percent this year, a significant improvement of 8 percentage points from last year.
This year the percentage of students with at least five grades of A* to C including English and maths has remained high, at 59 percent.
Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services Carol Runciman said she was extremely pleased with this year's record results.
"The young people who have received their results today should be exceptionally proud of their achievements. It takes a great deal of hard work to get such fantastic results."
"Whether they decide to go on to further study at our sixth forms or at York College, or into the world of work these results will stand these young people in good stead."
"The dedication and support of parents, teachers and staff has been vital in achieving these excellent results."
