Councillor Keith Aspden
Liberal Democrat Councillor Keith Aspden has welcomed the launch of a new cold calling zone in Fulford.
The zone will be in Cherry Wood Crescent, and will be launched on the 3rd September as part of a Police action day.
Cold Calling Zones aim to prevent 'doorstop crime', particularly that associated with cold calling such as distraction burglary. It also helps to reduce high pressure sales where vulnerable residents find that they have signed up for something that they don't actually want.
Residents within a designated zone agree that they do not wish to deal with cold callers, and can report anyone breaching their wishes to Trading Standards or the Police. Signs are put in place to warn uninvited callers that they are not welcome in the area.
Councillor Aspden said: "I am very pleased with the launch of this Cold Calling Zone. Previous zones have been a great success in giving residents the confidence to take control of their neighbourhood and to say 'no' to cold callers."
"This is a great opportunity for the Police and the Council to work together with residents to deal with issues such as doorstep crime. The signs will act as a deterrent for unwanted visitors and will give residents peace of mind."
