Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to see York in a whole new light next month as the popular Illuminating York festival returns to the city.
The festival, which will see the city's famous landmarks lit up in spectacular fashion by local and international artists, returns for it's sixth year from 27th to 30th October.
The festival is supported by City of York Council, Visit York, Welcome to Yorkshire and Arts Council England and contributes an estimated £2m to the local economy.
This year's main feature will be a display based around the Minster's Rose Window which will use high powered projectors to turn the Minster's south wall into a spectacular light display featuring images of the Minster and the city's museums.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said he was pleased the festival would be returning to the city.
He said, "The Illuminating York festival is always very popular with residents and visitors so I am delighted to see such a fantastic programme of events being planned for this year."
"The use of famous city landmarks for the backdrop of these displays really highlights how lucky we are in York to live in a city with such a visible and varied history."
"Lighting up the landmarks in this way really does make you see the city in a whole new light."
Councillor Ayre added, "The festival is a big event for the city and attracts a large number of visitors which provides an important boost for the local economy."
"It is great news that the festival continues to go from strength to strength and I am sure this year will be better than ever."
