Residents in Fulford have been showing their concern over the limited engagement with residents on new plans for the Germany Beck development by backing a petition organised by local Liberal Democrat Councillor Keith Aspden.
The petition, which calls for greater consultation with the local community, has already gained almost 100 signatures from villagers concerned about the proposed development and the limited opportunities to express their views ahead of the detailed plans being submitted.
A public exhibition of the plans for the site for was held last week, but residents were only given a weeks notice of the event and there are no plans for any further consultation at this stage of the application with all residents.
Councillor Aspden has now submitted the petition so far to the developers in the hope of encouraging them to expand their consultation plans.
He said, "It is important that the developers fully engage with the local community before submitting their planning application. One public event and a consultation that closes over the Christmas period are not sufficient to be able to deal with the concerns of residents."
Councillor Aspden said the response to the petition showed the level of concern amongst the local community about the lack of consultation. He said, "The Germany Beck development will have a big impact on the village and the reserved matters planning application will deal with some of the biggest issues like site layout and access."
"I hope that City of York Council and Persimmon Homes will take on board the concerns of local people that have been expressed through this petition and consider engaging more with the local community."
