YORK LIBRARY HEAD TAKES UP NATIONAL ROLE

6.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th Jun 2009

Fiona Williams, head of Libraries and Heritage at City of York Council, will soon be helping to develop libraries across the country following her appointment as President of the Society of Chief Librarians.

Her new role will see Fiona working alongside Government Departments and other major partners to highlight the role that libraries can play in the delivery of a wide range of agendas.

Commenting on Fiona's appointment, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said, "York is recognized nationally as a centre for best practice for libraries and I am sure Fiona will be able to share that best practice in her new role."

"Fiona will continue to her current job alongside being President of the Society of Chief Librarians and I wish her every success in both roles."
