SHARE A GARDEN" SCHEME LAUNCHED IN WESTFIELD

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 27th Jun 2009

Westfield Ward councillor Sue Galloway is launching a Share a Garden Scheme aimed at those people who would like to grow their own vegetables but have nowhere to do so.

Sue said: "Allotments in York are now virtually full. We are aware that there are people who want to grow their own vegetables but have nowhere to do so. We also know that there are people who have large gardens which they find difficult to manage."

"So, we are now gathering names and addresses of people who want to grow their own food and those who have large suitable gardens and will attempt to put them in touch with each other. It will be up to the individuals concerned to make their own agreements."

"The idea would be that someone would cultivate the garden and let the owner have a share of the produce. All this will help the economy and make residents more self sufficient and provide healthy food."

"If you live in the Westfield Ward and want to add your name to the list, please ring Cllr Susan Galloway on York 794111 or e mail cllr.susangalloway@york.gov.uk stating whether you have a garden to share or want to grow your own food.
