YORK'S YOUNG PEOPLE CHOSEN TO TAKE PART IN NATIONAL CULTURE CONSULTATION

12.00.00am GMT Tue 19th Jan 2010

York has been selected to take part in a national project to collect young people's views on cultural activities provided both locally and nationally.

York is one of 11 authorities across the country taking part in the government's 'Find Your Talent' scheme which will ask young people their opinions on a range of cultural activities including arts, sports, museums and libraries.

Young people will be invited to join a specially set up Young Person's Cultural Strategy Group that will meet to discuss how the cultural offer for young people could be improved both locally and nationally.

Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said York has been chosen to take part in the project because of its excellent record in involving young people in decision making.

He said, "Staff in the Lifelong Learning and Culture department have a great record of involving young people in decision making and consulting young people on important issues."

"The young people of York themselves have provided a great range of ideas on how services can be improved in the past and I am sure that they will do so again during this consultation."
