COUNCILLOR WELCOMES FURTHER FUNDING FOR SCHOOL LANE PLAY EQUIPMENT12.00.00am GMT Fri 26th Feb 2010 Children and young people in Fulford will see further of improvements to a popular play facility this coming financial year, thanks to £4000 of funding from Heslington and Fulford Ward Committee. Last year Fulford Parish Council spent £10,000 installing new items of play equipment, including a basket swing and small climbing tower, at School Lane playing fields in a bid to improve the facility and make appeal to children and young people of a wider range of ages. The funding from the Ward Committee will allow Fulford Parish Council to complete the work to improve the playing fields, with older items of equipment being replaced and along with any required landscaping work. Parish Councillors submitted a bid to the Ward Committee for the funding, which was approved following a ballot of residents who chose the schemes they would most like to see receiving funding. Local Liberal Democrat Councillor, Keith Aspden said he hoped the continued improvements to the equipment would encourage more children to use the facility. He said, "Items of the play equipment has already been upgraded, thanks to funding from the Parish Council, the Ward Committee funding will allow the improvements to be completed, making the playing fields a great place for children to come and play." "School Lane playing field has long been a popular site for local young people and the completion of these improvements will help to build on that." "It's really important that local children and young people have somewhere safe to play that's close to their homes.
