Reuban Mayne

Reuban is married with two young sons. He has lived in York for most of his adult life. He has experience of local government having worked for City of York Council for seven years. Currently Reuban works for North Yorkshire County Council where he teaches a range of courses in adult and community education.

Rachel Lewis

Rachel is married to Mick and lives with their three children and her stepson Ben. She has lived in Acomb for 8 years after leaving Bristol University. Rachel previously worked at the Central Science Laboratory, and now works with Mick in their engineering company. George has just started at Carr Infant School and Alfie attends Rainbows playgroup where Rachel is the Vice-Treasurer.

BISHOPTHORPE

David Livesley

David has been a Bishopthorpe ward councillor since 1999, with previous council experience in the South. He has worked in Nigeria, Manchester, Reading, West and North Yorkshire and has lectured at York College since 1981. He has been Bishopthorpe Christian Aid organiser since the 1986 and is a member of St Andrew's PCC and a Bishopthorpe infant school governor. David is the Chair of the West area planning committee

Karoline Kirk

Karoline Kirk

Karoline comes from York and was educated at All Saints School. After living and working in Brighton for the Council Benefits Department, she returned to York where she is currently reading for a degree in Social Work at York University. Karoline likes to spend her annual holidays working with underprivileged children and has spent 2 of the last 3 summers in Romania. She also fundraises for children's charities.

Matt Reid

Matt Reid

Matt has lived in York since 1985 and was educated at Oaklands School and York Sixth Form College. Single, he currently lives in the Wigginton Rd area and works as an Assistant Manager at Homebase. He is interested in all types of music and, if elected, would be particularly interested in youth and leisure issues.

Derek Waudby

Derek Waudby

Derek lives in Clifton and is married to Irene, who is already a serving councillor. He was born and brought up in York and has lived for much of his life in the Burtonstone Lane area. Derek retired after a career in the civil service, having been a member of the regional management team of the Dept of Employment in Leeds. He has worked as a volunteer in the past and would strongly support the work of the voluntary sector. An Open University graduate, Derek's interests are his family, walking and local history.

Linda Maggs

Linda Maggs

Linda has lived in Dunnington since 1979. She is married with three children, who all attended Dunnington Primary School and Fulford School. Linda is Treasurer of Dunnington Playgroup, a Member of the Guides and Scouts Committee and served as local authority representative on School Governing Board at Dunnington Primary School for more than ten years. She was elected as Dunnington Parish Councillor in 1999, serving on Planning Committee, representative for Campaign to Protect Rural England, Public Rights of Way and Hassacarr Nature Reserve. A leading member of Dunnington Village Design Statement group, Linda has worked with Ward Committee system for funding for Hassacarr Nature Reserve, Hagg Wood, Public Rights of Way leaflet, Village Design Statement and other projects. For the past fifteen years she has been involved with Hassacarr Nature Reserve as a member of Dunnington Conservation Group.

Tom Holvey

Tom Holvey

Tom has lived in York for six years since graduating from university, and is originally from Lincoln. Tom currently works at Leeds City Council in economic policy. Outside interests include most sports, particularly cricket, football rugby and racing, as well as travelling and reading.

Ann Reid

Ann Reid

Married with 3 children, Ann has lived in York since 1985. She has been a City of York Councillor for 20 years representing Foxwood Ward for 16 years and Dringhouses and Woodthorpe Ward since boundary changes in 2003. She was Lord Mayor in 1993 and has been Executive Member for Planning and Transport, now City Strategy, since 2003. Ann also takes a keen interest in education matters and has been a Governor at Woodthorpe School for over 20 years. She is an active member and a Past Master of the Cordwainers Guild and a Friend of Acomb Wood.

Sue Sunderland

Sue was elected as Dringhouses and Woodthorpe Councillor in 2003, and has served as the Executive Member for Housing since then. Sue was born in York and was educated at Hob Moor, Woodthorpe and Ashfield Schools. She lived on Tedder Road for 18 years where she helped to organise a residents' group involved in the redevelopment of the area. Formerly a customer advisor for CPP, Sue has a degree in Psychology, Politics and Sociology from Leeds Met University where she studied as a mature student. She has two grown-up children and lives in Dringhouses.

Nick Hudson

Nick is originally from Lincolnshire, and is currently studying at the University of York. His interests include political history, and outside politics, he is interested in art.

Susan Nunn

Susan Nunn

Susan is 59 years old and married to David, who is a train driver for First Transpennine. Educated at King James Grammar School in Knaresborough, she moved to York in 1980 and began worked part time at Asda in Huntington, before retraining and joining a law firm in York as a partner's secretary, where she has been for nine years.

Sue is Vice-Chairman of Rawcliffe Parish Council, Minute Secretary for Shopmobility York and has been involved with the Company of Cordwainers for the past eight years. In her spare time she is a keen gardener, traveller and has two adorable grandchildren who she enjoys spending time with. Sue enjoys living in York and is committed to making it a better place to live and work

Keith Aspden

Keith Aspden

Keith has been the local councillor for Fulford since 2003, and enjoys being involved in a large number of local community groups, for example, Fulford Residents Association. He is also a member of North Yorkshire Fire Authority. Both due to his work as a North Yorkshire secondary school teacher and school governor, he is particularly interested in education and services for young people.

Peter Reid

Peter Reid

Peter is married with 3 grown up children and lives in Woodthorpe. Until taking early retirement in 2000, he was a sales manager for a chemical company, selling latex to the paper industry in Europe and Scandinavia. Peter is now a carer and house husband. He is a founder member and Chair of the Friends of Acomb Wood and his interests are photography and motor sports.

Jackie is married with one married son. Lived in York for 28 years. Taught in York schools for 23 years before retirement. She has been a member of governing body of a York primary school for 7 years. Jackie is an active community worker.

HAXBY & WIGGINTON

Paul Firth

Paul Firth

Paul is Yorkshire born and bred and has lived in Wigginton since 1998. He retired from the Army after 33 years service, in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, in 2002 and now works as a Project Manager for an IT consultancy. He is a Governor of Wigginton Primary School and Chair of Wigginton Parish Council and has an active role in representing local issues. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, watching rugby and enjoys the theatre.

Chris Hogg

Chris Hogg

Chris has campaigned locally in Haxby and Wigginton for many years and has been a Councillor since 1995. Chris is an experienced photographer and film-maker and is currently the Multi-Media Manager at the National Railway Museum. Married to Lillian, Chris has two sons called Jonathan and Alex. Besides photography, his outside interests include football, cricket, reading and music.

Richard Watson

Richard Watson

Born and bred in North Yorkshire, Richard has lived in Haxby since 1984. He has17 years' experience as a local councillor in our area, both on Ryedale District Council and, since 1999, on the City of York Council. At York, he has been Chairman of the main Planning Committee since 2003 and is Vice-Chairman of the strategic planning working group which was responsible for restoring a number of areas of land to the Green Belt, including the land off Usher Lane. He also serves on the Audit and Governance Committee and the committee dealing with Corporate Services. Richard represents York as a Board Member of Ryedale Housing Association which has 1,600 homes for rent in the northern York area. He has served as Under Sheriff on 4 occasions.

Richard has been a solicitor for 20 years and is a partner in one of York's oldest law firms. He enjoys gardening, music and dog walking.

HESLINGTON

Ceredig has been the local councillor for Heslington since 2003. He is the Council's Executive Member for Social inclusion and Young People. Ceredig moved to York five years ago from Wales, and has a young son who attends nursery in Heslington. His outside interests include attending rugby matches and he enjoys cycling.

HEWORTH

Simon Blackburn

Simon Blackburn

Simon, 32 (always known as Sam), was born in York and lives in the Heworth Ward. He lived in Foxwood for 18 years and was educated at Oaklands School. He now lives in the Heworth Ward. He has developed his interest from his mother, Sue Sunderland who is a Councillor. A keen sportsman he enjoys cycling and has played hockey for the City of York Club. He also enjoys reading and going to the cinema.

Robin Hazzard-Gallagher

Robin Hazzard-Gallagher

Robin moved to Heworth from Weston-super-Mare to study at the University of York. His interests include fencing, fine art and theology.

Ian Packington

Ian Packington

Ian previously stood for election as a candidate in Heworth ward in 2003. Ian's background is in teaching, but his main areas of concern are environmental issues including recycling and waste disposal. Ian is an executive committee member of the National Pure Water Association. Ian is a governor of Yearsley Grove Primary School. Ian is currently the Secretary of York Central Liberal Democrats, and his outside interests include singing and playing the trombone.

Nigel Ayre

Nigel Ayre

Nigel was born in Heworth, attended school at Hempland, and has lived and worked here all his life. He has settled in the area, after studying for a BA and MA at Lancaster University, moving to Galtres Road in 2003 and marrying in 2004. For the past four years he has managed Ace DVD's in Heworth, before setting up in business on his own. An active sportsman, he plays cricket, football and golf. A keen collector of films, he can be heard doing Film reviews once a month on Radio York. His political interests cover the environment, youth issues and wider political engagement.

HOLGATE

Martin Bartlett

Martin Bartlett

Martin moved to York in 1986, primarily to study Medieval Drama at the University. Previously he had been a teacher in Grimsby. From 1988 to 2001 he was employed by York Archaeological Trust, initially working on excavations and then managing the Archaeological Resource Centre. He has dug for Time Team. He was elected to represent the Holgate Ward on the City of York Council in 2003 and is currently the Vice Chair of both the Council's Licensing Committee and the City Centre and West Planning Subcommittee. He is a school governor for both Millthorpe and St Paul's. Martin is married to Penny and has a son Nicholas, currently studying at Millthorpe School. Interests include community-based performing arts; he is a professional folk musician and has acted in all the recent wagon productions of the York Mystery Plays.

Gil Nimmo

Gil Nimmo

Gil has been a councillor for Holgate ward since 2003. He is Chair of the Council's Licensing Committee. Born in Glasgow in 1943 Gil moved to York in 1983 with the army. He retired from the army in 1988 after 37 years of service. Gil has been married for 42 years and has one son, one daughter and a grand daughter. Gil has been a magistrate since 2002 and was Sheriff of York in 2005. His outside interests include golf.

Jonathan Stott

Jonathan Stott

Jon was born in West Yorkshire and moved to York in 1994 to study biology at the University. After eight months spent travelling, he returned to teach science at Tadcaster Grammar School then more recently at Fulford. In the last year he has set up his own property restoration company. Jon's interests include hiking, cycling and listening to, writing and playing music. If elected, he would be particularly interested in environmental and education issues.

Mike Johns-Perring

Mike Johns-Perring

Mike went to school at King Edward VI Community College, Totnes in Devon. After completing 'A' levels, he took a year out in which he visited New Zealand (travel, being a big interest - he visited Bulgaria and Romania in Summer of 2006) before beginning a BA course in History and Politics at the University of York. Travel is a big interest and Mike visited Bulgaria and Romania in summer 2006. He has just started a Japanese conversation course and has a strong in interest in his fields of study. Mike also enjoy reading and writing, walking, cycling, cricket and football (besides a number of other outdoor activities), as well as spending time with friends.

Keith Hyman

Keith Hyman

Keith was elected to the council in 2003. He is Chair of the Audit & Governance committee and sits on 5 others. He is also the Council's representative on the Boards of Science City York, York-England.com. York & District Sports Federation and the Fire Authority. Keith is also a Parish Councillor in Huntington and Chair of Governors at Huntington Primary School. He still plays cricket locally and has an interest in all sport.

Keith Orrell

Keith Orrell

Keith taught children with special educational needs for nearly thirty years culminating in being Head of a Unit for autistic children Keith has wide political experience and was Parliamentary Candidate for Ryedale in 1997 and 2001 substantially reducing the Conservative majority. He has been Executive Member for Leisure & Culture since 2003 and is also a member of Huintington Parish Council. Keith is a member of Heworth Golf Club.

Carol Runciman

Carol Runciman

Carol moved here to live in York in 1988. She has been Councillor for Huntington and New Earswick since 1999 and is also a member of New Earswick Parish Council. Since 2003 she has been the Executive Member for Children's Services (formerly Education) and has overseen an extensive programme of school building as well as signficant improvements in school results. Her career has been in Education and until recently she was a senior manager in a Further Education College. Carol is a governor of Joseph Rowntree School and of York College and is also a Trustee of the Theatre Royal. She serves on the Court of York University. Carol became a Justice of the Peace in 1978 and specialises in Family Court work as well as chairing in the Adult crime and Drugs courts. Her interests outside politics include music and reading. She has a special interest and knowledge of provision for the Early Years.

MICKLEGATE

Carole Green

Carole Green

Carole is married to Alan and has lived in Bishopthorpe for 32 years. Her son Alexander lives and teaches English in the Czech Republic. Carole has been active in St. Andrew's church and involved in many village groups. Carole has been a governor at a local primary school for 14 years. Since 1995 she has been a parish councillor and edits a village magazine. With Alan, Carole runs regular fundraising events, benefiting many local charities. For 15 years Carole ran the local group of the Prison Christian Fellowship, helping the group to support inmates of Askham Grange women's prison, its staff and chaplains

Gill Thompson

Gill Thompson works for York Alzeimers Society out of Acomb Gables. She is a former Micklegate Ward resident (having lived in Scarcroft Road and Moss Street).

John Tull

John Tull

John is married to Mag; they live in Holgate and have two sons. For 20 years he has been a self-employed management consultant and trainer in health, safety, environmental and quality systems. John is an active and committed member of St Paul's church Holgate and was a candidate for Holgate in 1999. His particular concerns are sustainable development and anti-social behaviour.

OSBALDWICK

Jonathan Morley

Jonathan Morley

1984 saw Jonathan elected as County Councillor for Osbaldwick & Murton and Heworth Without, a position he held for 12 years until the City of York Council took over from the County Council. In 1997 Jonathan was elected as the City Councillor for Osbaldwick and since 2003 also represents Murton on the City Council. He has also served as Vice Chairman on the Fire Authority and is a member of the Regional Management Board for the Yorkshire and Humberside Fire Authorities. He is a co-opted member of the North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations. Jonathan is married to Adelaide and has run his own business as a solicitor in York since 1979. He enjoys history, genealogy, singing and growing organically on his allotment.

RURAL WEST YORK

Glen Bradley

Glen Bradley

Glen lives in Nether Poppleton and was born, raised and educated in York. He is married with two children. He has been a City Councillor since 2003 and has served on several council committees including the Health Scrutiny Board, the Scrutiny Management Committee and the Resources Advisory Panel. Glen is a graduate and has a particular interest in Education and currently chairs the Children's Services Advisory Panel (formerly known as the Education Advisory panel this position has been held since 2003). Glen also chaired the Education Scrutiny Board from 2003 to 2006. A Nether Poppleton Parish Councillor for five years, Glen is also a founder governor of Poppleton Ousebank Primary School and prior to the merger served as a governor for Upper Poppleton Infant School. Glen is a manager in a large telecommunications company and works in York. He enjoys spending his spare time with friends and family and likes to cycle and swim to keep fit.

Quentin has lived in Poppleton since 1971 and been a City of York Councillor since 1996. He is a Member of the Executive with the portfolio for Corporate Services. He is a member of the Planning Committee, the West & City Centre Planning sub-committee, the Local Development Framework sub-committee & the North Yorkshire Pension Fund committee. He is also a member of the York Theatre Royal Board and the Management Board of the Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation. Before election to the City of York council, he was a governor of Poppleton Junior & Infant Schools, a member of the York Community Health Council and an Upper Poppleton Parish Councillor. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with a consultancy in the railway signalling industry.

Marjorie Stones

Marjorie Stones

Marjorie is married with two grown-up children and lives in Copmanthorpe. Born and raised in Urmston Manchester, she and her husband Chris moved to Copmanthorpe seven years ago. Whilst living in Manchester, Marjorie worked in the Training and Development department of a major Civil Engineering company but is now retired. She has been a member of Copmanthorpe Parish Council for four years and is currently the Chairman of the 'Roads and Footpaths' Committee. Marjorie has a keen interest in community issues and is a voluntary driver for the Good Companions organisation. She is a keen gardener and has organised the Copmanthorpe Garden Competition for the last two years and has played a major part in the competition's successful return after being dormant for many years. In her role as a Parish Councillor, she works closely with the current Liberal Democrat CoYC Councillors and is very pleased to be given the opportunity to join the Liberal Democrat team standing for election in 2007. Marjorie devotes as much time as she can to family life and has recently become a grandmother.

Richard Moore

Richard Moore

After being educated at Archbishop Holgate's Grammar School, Richard moved away from York, returning to Clifton Moor in September 1990. He joined Rawcliffe Parish Council in July 1995, becoming Chairman in May 1999, and has had an active role in representing local interests. Richard has increasingly devoted his time to ensuring that transport planning and development are sympathetic to the existing areas, and that the Green Belt receives protection from inconsiderate development. In his spare time Richard is a member of Clifton Backies Management Board and raises funds for St. Leonard's Hospice

Phill Thomas

Phill Thomas

Phill was born and educated in East End of London. After 15 years RAF service, he worked in retail then went into manufacturing management. After serving with the Census Office Social Survey Division, he moved to York and started his own business in 1984. Phill's interests are in Community and Youth Projects; he is secretary of three groups and a Parish Councillor. His outside interests are in aviation.

Irene Waudby

Irene has lived in Rawcliffe since 1974. She has been a Councillor since 1989 having first served on North Yorkshire Council and then on City of York Council since 1995. She has special interests in planning, police and crime. Irene is a governor at Lakeside School and a member of Rawcliffe Parish Council. She is married to Derek, has two children and one grandson, and her pastimes include family history and walking. Irene has served as Lord Mayor of York and believes that local councillors should be accessible and pro-active.

STRENSALL

Ian Cuthbertson

Ian Cuthbertson

Ian was born and bred in Yorkshire and has lived in York since 1994. Elected as a councillor for Strensall Ward in 2003, he chairs York's Health Scrutiny Committee and serves on the Planning Committee, the Children's Services panel and the Social Inclusion Working Group. Ian's family has a tradition of service in the army and he spent part of his childhood in various garrisons when his father served in BAOR. Ian has a part-time post as information systems manager for a Yorkshire charity and he teaches part-time at York St John University. During his time in office, Ian has worked hard with the ward's parish councils and local residents for the benefit of the community. Ian is a governor of Headlands Primary School and Burnholme Community College. In his spare time, he leads a team which produces a talking newspaper and his interests include walking, theatre and music.

Madeleine Kirk

A local Councillor since 1991, Madeleine has lived in, and represented the Strensall/Stockton ward for the last 12 years. She is married with two grown up children and works for one of Britain's largest social research charities. She is Chair of the Scrutiny Management Committee and Vice Chair of the Economic Partnership Board. Madeleine is also a member of the York Theatre Royal Board, the Reserve Forces & Cadets Association Yorkshire & the Humber and Vice Chair of Connexions York & North Yorkshire.

WESTFIELD

Steve Galloway

Steve Galloway

Leader of the Council, Steve is York's longest serving Councillor having represented the Westfield and Foxwood wards for 34 years. Steve lives in the Westfield ward at 6 Stirrup Close and retired from his job as a Business Planning Manager 8 years ago to concentrate on his work as a Councillor. He specialises in financial, economic development and transportation policy areas and currently chairs the Councils Executive committee. He also chairs the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Planning Board as well as the York Strategic Partnership and the York & North Yorkshire investment panel. Steve was the City's Lord Mayor in 1983/4 and his recreational interests include watching football and the occasional trip to the gym.

Sue Galloway

Born in Harrogate, Sue was educated at King James School in Knaresborough. She moved to York in 1971 on taking up employment with Rowntree (Nestle) as a secretary before moving on to becoming a buyer before taking voluntary redundancy in 2000. Elected to the City of York Council in 1979 to represent Westfield Ward, Sue is currently the Executive Member for Adult Social Services & Health. She serves on the West Area Planning Committee and the Licensing Committee and is a member of the Foxwood Management Committee, the York in Bloom Committee and a Board member of York Business Pride. Sue is a WRVS volunteer and is Chairman of her local Neighbourhood Watch Committee. Any spare time is dedicated to gardening and needlework

Andrew Waller

Andrew Waller

Andrew is Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Councillor for Neighbourhood Services. He has campaigned for better recycling, improvements to street cleansing and clearing up graffiti. He is a governor at Westfield Primary School, Oaklands Secondary School, and the new York High School. He is a member of the Yorkshire Flood Defence Committee, Trustee Board of the Citizens Advice Bureau and is chairman of the local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. He has a degree in physics and has worked for Nestle Rowntree (Research) and GNER (Finance Team). Former Co-ordinator for York Friends of the Earth. First elected for Westfield in 1994. Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate 1997, 2001, 2005. Outside of politics he attends St Olave's Church, and gardens when he can.

WHELDRAKE

Christian Vassie

Christian Vassie

Christian has three daughters and lives in Wheldrake with his partner Mary, who works as a teacher in York. Christian Vassie is a composer of music for film and TV. He has produced music for over 70 productions including dramas, documentaries, wildlife films and children's TV. He is also an author. Christian initiated the Council's 'Ecodepot' project and has been involved throughout the development and construction of Europe's largest straw-clad building. As the Council's Energy Champion Christian has moved the city forwards on environmental sustainability. Christian is in demand across Europe as a speaker at energy and climate change conferences.
