Celebration of Volunteers in York

December 5, 2017 2:15 PM

Cllr Orrell and Cllr Runciman - Huntington Gala ()Each year, thousands of people in York volunteer their time and skills to help make the City a better place. When they volunteer, they help to improve the lives of others. And when they volunteer, they also gain a greater sense of belonging to their communities.

Today is International Volunteers Day; a day dedicated to those who have committed their own time to improve the lives of people in York.

It is important that we celebrate volunteers in York, from serving on Community Panels, to mentoring young people, people of all ages and backgrounds have volunteered in our City to help others and support their local communities.

Cllr Keith Orrell said:

"The Council and the City of York have a proud tradition of encouraging volunteerism and it is so important that we can make it as easy as possible for people to get involved.

Volunteers provide a valuable service that truly makes a difference here in York and it is quite right that today, we recognise and give thanks for the efforts of volunteers across the City.

As an organisation that also relies on the hard work of volunteers, the York Liberal Democrats want to thank all the outstanding volunteers, across York, for their service to the City."
