York Road crossing - make the Council take action!

Tony Fisher York Road

Local campaigner Tony Fisher on York Road

Earlier this year, Strensall Parish Council asked City of York Council to provide a pedestrian crossing on York Road near to Barley Rise so that there is a safe place for people to cross.

City of York's Highways staff responded saying that there was no need for one as the road wasn't busy enough and there hadn't been any accidents. Instead, they proposed spending almost £20k on a scheme with dropped kerbs and wooden bollards at five places. The Parish Council objected to this scheme and said it was a waste of money as, for £6k more, we could have had a proper pedestrian crossing. The Conservative executive member approved the scheme anyway and it has just been built.

Your local Lib Dems still believe that a pedestrian crossing is the only way to provide a safe route to cross this busy road - and we are supporting the Parish Council's petition for one to be installed.

Please sign to show your support. All signatures will be passed to the Parish Council to be presented at a future meeting of City of York Council.

I/we, the undersigned, call on City of York Council to provide a pedestrian crossing on York Road, Strensall.
