Councillors urge City supporters to use public transport or park at Vangarde for play off match

A large crowd is expected for the first-ever play-off match at the LNER Community Stadium, following York City Football club reaching play off stage in the National League North. In anticipation of this game, local councillors are urging football fans to use public transport to attend the game or park away from residential streets.

Local councillors have been working with stadium and Vangarde management and bus operators to manage parking issues around the stadium, which is seeing residential streets being used to park on game days.

For the Playoff Eliminator against Chorley at the LNER Community Stadium on Wednesday night (7:45pm kick-off) supporters are encouraged to use the Vangarde car park, where no parking restrictions will be in place after 6pm. The easiest routes to access the car park are via Malton Road and the northern ring road.

Additional bus services will be also provided by First York. The most frequent, First York Park and Ride service 9, departs every 10 minutes from York City Centre. For the latest travel and transport information please visit: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/york

Councillor Keith Orrell, local councillor for Huntington and New Earswick, says:

 “It’s brilliant that City have reached the play-offs after their terrific run at the end of the season.

“As support for the club has grown, so have concerns in the local community about parking on residential streets on match days. In anticipation of this, ahead of the opening of the stadium, we worked with bus operators, Council officers as well as management teams at the stadium and the shopping centre to develop strategies to help residents and supporters.

“Covid understandably delayed some plans which would have seen increased public transport use on match days, but work is ongoing to make sure local communities as well as fans are supported.

“If supporters are not able to use public transport to get to the match, the easiest place to park is the Vangarde car park which is free from 6pm using Malton Road and ring road to get there.

“We hope that City win on Wednesday and go on to get the promotion the Club and our city deserve.”
