Haxby Station planning application submitted
The planning application for the reopening of Haxby train station has been submitted to the City of York planning department and Haxby’s Councillors are encouraging residents to have their say on the application.
Councillor Andrew Hollyer said:
“We're delighted to let you know that the planning application for Haxby Station went online this morning.
“The planning application is for the construction of a new, two-platform railway station at Haxby. The proposal also includes a single span footbridge, lift towers & staircases; bus turning circle, cycle storage and surface level car park (154 spaces); new foot/cycle path to west of railway; new foot/cycle path along Towthorpe Road and other ancillary works.
“The Haxby station project is one that progressed rapidly under the previous Liberal Democrat administration following our initial investment of £50,000 to produce a business case.”
Councillor Ian Cuthbertson added:
“It has taken many years of campaigning by Liberal Democrat Councillors and residents to get to this key point and we would like to thank the residents within Haxby, Wigginton and across the north of York that have supported our campaign.
“This will be a real boost to residents, allowing them to easily travel to York and beyond, reducing car journeys and increasing connectivity.”
Councillor Edward Pearson added:
“We're encouraging everyone to have their say on the plans, you can email the council at planning.comments@york.gov.uk or visit the link below.
“Council officers will also attend a public meeting of Haxby Town Council on Tuesday 5 March, 7.30pm at Oaken Grove Community Centre to outline key features of the application. Residents are welcome to attend.
“All planning applications can be improved and we look forward to engaging with residents to make our new station as good as it can be.”
