Hull Road bus stop flooding concerns
Liberal Democrat campaigners in Hull Road ward have expressed concerns that recent repairs made to a sunken roadside gully at the Windmill Lane Bus Stop on Hull Road may have backfired and led to localised flooding.
Following heavy overnight rain on Sunday 22nd September, the area was flooded on Monday morning meaning that buses pulling in to the bus stop risked drenching waiting passengers. The gully at the Windmill Lane Bus Stop had sunk and was dangerous for cyclists who were forced to pull out towards the middle of Hull Road which is very busy at this location. On 11th September work took place to raise the gully to road height and remove the obstacle. However following the heavy overnight rain on 22/23 September the area was flooded, with buses finding it difficult to pull in.
Hull Road Lib Dem Campaigner Andrew Mortimer said “We welcome the work to raise the height of the gully at the bus stop, but something seems to have gone badly wrong. The area was under water on Monday morning, with a lake forming that completely filled the bus pull-in and spread on to the main part of Hull Road. We have reported the problem to City of York Council and asked them to look at this urgently. With more heavy rain forecast it is important that the problem is sorted quickly.”
