Lib Dems demand action on Jockey Lane Pedestrian Crossing
Huntington and New Earswick Liberal Democrats are calling for a pedestrian and cycle crossing on Jockey Lane, Huntington to be repainted as a matter of urgency.
In July 2023 local Liberal Democrat Councillors were asked by our local police officer if the crossing on Jockey Lane could be repainted. The crossing is designed to help both pedestrians and cyclists.
The request also asked for improvements to the lighting on the crossing.
Councillor Keith Orrell made the request to the Council on July 27th 2023. Liberal Democrat Councillors have made a number of reminders asking for the crossing to be repainted.
Councillor Keith Orrell, Huntington and New Earswick Ward commented:
“This is a serious safety concern identified by the police on this very busy road where motorists do not always adhere to the 30mph speed limit. It is therefore important for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists that the crossing is easily visible to motorists.
“Since the stadium, pool, library and other community facilities opened during the previous Lib Dem administration Jockey Lane has become even busier. This crossing is specially designed to help cyclists and pedestrians with separate signage for each user.
“We understand that white lining can take time to implement but a crossing which is there for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists should be a priority. Local Liberal Democrat Councillors are urging that this work is carried out as a matter of urgency.
“Liberal Democrat Councillors also asked that potential improvements in the lighting on the crossing be investigated.”
