Liberal Democrats pass Outer Ring Road Dualling
York’s Liberal Democrat councillors have welcomed the decision by the Council’s Planning Committee to approve the dualling of the A1237 York Outer Ring Road from Hopgrove to the A19.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Andrew Hollyer proposed the recommendation to approve the dualling and several measures to improve active travel and all Lib Dem members of the committee voted in favour.
Councillor Andrew Hollyer said:
“The dualling of the York Outer Ring Road is something that Liberal Democrat Councillors have been campaigning on for the last 40 years. This will be a great infrastructure project that will help reduce congestion, reduce car journeys through the city centre alongside improving active travel infrastructure.
“This project is vital for York’s surrounding villages as it will improve their connectivity and reduce journey times and it will also help to create the conditions for more interventions to support public transport and active travel.
“This application will also support the council’s climate change commitments as it has over 5km of additional shared use cycle and footpaths, signalised crossing facilities for active travel users and new underpasses to enable safer crossings.”
