Petition Launched to Re-open Stockton-on-the-Forest Surgery

23 Dec 2022

Lib Dem Councillor Tony Fisher has launched a petition calling on Haxby Group Practice to reopen Stockton-on-the-Forest's GP surgery.

Local residents were appalled when Stockton’s surgery closed in November.

Cllr Tony Fisher contacted the Haxby Group Practice Manager, who assured him that the closure was due to a lack of reception staff, and that the surgery would reopen when new ones were recruited.

However, there are now reports that 'there is a “very real possibility” the surgery could close permanently'. following comments made by Mike Holmes, chair of GP practice provider Nimbuscare at a recent council meeting.

“This is extremely unsatisfactory,” commented local Lib Dem councillor Tony Fisher.

“This means that patients from Stockton will have to travel to either Haxby or Huntington.”

Local Lib Dem campaigner Paul Healey added “There is no direct bus to either of these surgeries. If you don’t have access to a car, this means a long bus journey or an expensive taxi fare.”

Tony emphasised that permanent closure is not acceptable, as Stockton has too few facilities as it is.

Paul and Tony are asking you to sign their petition, which will be presented to Haxby Group managers.

The petition is online at  https://digitallibdems.typeform.com/sotfsurgery
