Strensall Liberal Democrat Councillors Demand Safe Cycle Path to York

Strensall’s Liberal Democrat Councillors have raised urgent concerns with the Council’s Transport boss over the lack of active travel infrastructure in their ward.
Cllrs Tony Fisher and Paul Healey met with Council Executive Member Cllr Kate Ravillious to press for a safe cycling and walking link from Strensall to York.
Cllr Tony Fisher said:
“As ward Councillors for Strensall, Earswick, and Stockton-on-the-Forest, we are deeply concerned by the lack of action from the Council on transport improvements for our villages, which have been overlooked.
“We have long been at the forefront of the campaign for a safe cycling and walking route from Strensall to York. During our meeting, we urged the Council to make investments to provide a dedicated cycle route along Strensall Road. However, we were told that instead of focusing on connecting key population centres that lack a safe cycling route, the priority would be to link existing cycling networks within the city centre.”
Cllr Paul Healey added:
“The absence of safe cycling routes linking our villages to York is a missed opportunity for sustainable transport. It is essential that we improve active travel infrastructure for local residents who want safer, greener travel options.
“The best hope for a cycle link for our villages currently rests on the delayed Haxby Station project, but that is no substitute for the urgent need to address transport connectivity between Strensall, and Stockton-on-the-Forest and York. We are calling on the Labour Council, the Mayor, and the Government to get their act together and deliver these vital projects without further delay.”
